Carpet Beetle, Dermestidae Frass Under the Microscope

Carpet Beetle, Dermestidae Frass

This photograph shows the remains of an insect carapace (orange center) and the frass of the carpet beetle larva that was eating it. The fecal pellets are dark and unconsolidated in this image. The appearance of the fecal pellets is strongly affected by the nature of the food source, in this case chitin.
