Magnetite Crystal

Magnetite Crystal With Hemetite Coating

The typical cubic habit is evident here but the crystal is red (hematite) rather than black. The particle is still magnetic so it is still predominantly magnetite rather than hematite pseudomorphed from magnetite.

Reflected Light

Magnetite is Fe3O4 and is cubic in crystal habit all though octahedral {111} parting may be evident.
