Magnetite Crystal

Magnetite Crystal

This crystal shows the octahedral parting plane that can be seen on some magnetite crystals. The octahedral plane is normal to the vertex of a cube so it intersects three sides of the cube equally, as seen here.

Reflected Light

Magnetite is Fe3O4 and is cubic in crystal habit all though octahedral {111} parting may be evident.
