Aluminum Corrosion Particles Under the Microscope

Aluminum Corrosion Particles

These particles are from a walk-in refrigerator. The whitish powder coating food containers in this refrigerator caused some concern. An analysis of the material identified it as aluminum corrosion products that were raining down from the ceiling of this unit. The protective coating on the aluminum ceiling had been damaged which exposed the alumium to condensation and corrosion.
