Charred Leaf Fragments Through the Microscope

Charred Leaf Fragment

This is from a home impacted by a near approach of the Etiwanda fire. The Etiwanda fire was typical of a Southern California Chaparral fire. This fragment is from the veins of a deciduous leaf. The finely space black bars normal to the long direction of the particle are the reinforcing ribs of the veins.
