Edge Effect Polarization in Light Microscopy

Edge Effect Polarization

This is a view of an environmental tapelift collected in an office Building. It includes a number of particle types including metal fretting wear. The edge effect change in polarization is a little harder to see in this image because of the brighter background. Most of the particles showing this effect in this field of view are opaque. They look black with transmitted light.
