Pyrolized Calcium Oxalate Phytoliths and Ash from a fireplace Under the Microscope

Fireplace Ash

There are pyrolized phytoliths and ash on this environmental tapelift from a home with a fireplace. The crystal habit of the phitoliths indicate a hardwood. There were no wildfires within a hundred miles of this home. The concentration of phytoliths in this region indicate a source within at most a few meters (yards). There are a number of human skin flakes (the flakes with no grainulation) and other non-combustion particles in the field of view. The colorless flakes with white specks are ash.
