Gray Body Acoustic Ceiling Tile with Edge Wear

This is a common acoustic ceiling tile. The bulk material in this type of tile is a combination of glass fiber, cellulose fiber, calcite, perolite, and clear epoxy binder. This material is often claimed to be free of glass fiber because they use another name for the vitreous fiber used. The potential for health complaints is the same regardless of the name used for the vitreous fiber.

Definition/Function:

Acoustic ceiling tile and carpets are an effective way to control sound in schools and offices but they both may degrade environmental quality in other ways. Acoustic ceiling tile that contains glass fiber and is not well sealed along the edges of the tile may contribute glass fiber to the environment. The tile rests in a suspended T-bar grid and the edges are abraded by vibration, vertical or horizontal.
