Calcium Oxalate Phytoliths
This image shows a number of calcium oxalate
monohydrate (whewellite) phytoliths from maple (Acer macrophyllum)
leaves. This image shows a representative sampling of the prismatic and twinned
forms common to maple leaf phytoliths. Angles around 140, 70, 110,
and 127 are common, depending on the form and orientation of the crystal.
