Chrysotile in 1.550 Refractive Index Liquid Under the Microscope

Chrysotile in 1.550 Refractive Index Liquid

This is an example of a colorless material mounted in a matching refractive index liquid. The object becomes nearly invisible. If the refractive index match was perfect then the object would be invisible. Birefringent objects, like chrysotile, become visible in high contrast when using crossed polarized light even when they are mounted in a matching refractive index liquid.
