Crushed Actinolite Sand Grain, Day Creek, Washington State

Macrophotograph

Definition/Function:

This is the green sand grain shown in an earlier photograph crushed to show its fibrous nature. In the uncrushed form it would be more difficult to determine if this was acicular actinolite or actinolite asbestos. The fibril structure obvious here verifies that it is the asbestiform actinolite.
