Central Stop Dispersion Staining

This is a collection of glass fiber that has a refractive index of 1.550 in a high dispersion liquid with a refractive index of 1.560.

Transmitted Central Stop Illumination

Definition/Function:

Central stop dispersion staining requires a dedicated objective with an opaque stop at the back focal plane 10% greater in diameter than the image of the closed down substage iris. If the refractive index of the particle and the mounting medium match at some visible wavelength but the dispersion curve of the mounting medium has a greater slope than that of the particle then the particle is color by all the wavelengths that are a certain distance from the matching wavelength.
