Ilex opaca, (American Holly) Radial Section Under the Microscope

Ilex opaca, Radial-Section

This is an image from a stained standard section of Ilex opaca (American Holly) made by John P. Limbach of Ripon, Wisconsin. The helical thickening can be seen in the vessel walls associated with the pores. The ribs in the opening (perforation) of the vessels mark what are called scalariform perforations.
