The strandline is a area of concentrated olivine and other
heavy particles. The yellow-green particles are olivine,
many of the light colored translucent particles are shell fragments, and black
particles are basalt.

on the beach. This band is often
darker in color than the rest of the beach because the minerals that have a higher
density tend to be more highly colored.
