This is ash from Lemonade Sumac Leaf, Rhus integrifolia. This structure is from the vessel walls of the leaf. These structures often char or ash forming a tightly toothed comb fragment. This is from a tree in Southern California near a wildfire. This sample was "wet ashed" using a hypochlorite solution.
