Charred Wood
This is a sample of charred Douglas fir wood with
transmitted off crossed polarized light and reflected darkfield
illumination. The helictical thickening and the structure of the trachied pits are
apparent as a result of the darkfield reflected light providing
structural information not visible with transmitted brightfield illumination.
