Beach at Makauwahi Cave, Kauai, Hawaii
This is sand collected from a strandline on the beach near
Makauwahi Cave. The sand is a mixture of volcanic, shell,
and limestone grains. The strandline is enriched in olivines and magnetite crystals
from the igneous rock exposed in this area. The scale on the
left is marked in millimeters.
