Beach at Makauwahi Cave, Kauai, Hawaii
This is sand collected from a strandline on the beach near
Makauwahi Cave. When this sand is passed through a #100 US
sieve the magnetite crystals dominate. These are crystals that grew in the magma and
were freed by erosion over time. The scale on the
left is marked in millimeters.
