Calcite and Optical Glass
This is a fragment of calcite and two different
optical glasses, 1.66 and 1.67, in a 1.664
refractive index medium. With oblique illumination the low relief particles become
visible. If the low relief is due to a near
match in refractive indices then dispersion staining colors become visible.
