Snow Lily (Erythronium grandiflorum) Pollen

This is pollen collected from a snow lily flower found in the Cascade Mountains of Washington State. It has been dewaxed with alcohol but not acetalized. The purple pigment would be lost in acetalization. This is an equitorial view of the monocolpate pollen rotated from the colpus. The mounting medium is Shuremount with a refractive index of 1.49.
