Tricolporate Pollen

Transmitted Brightfield Illumination

This pollen grain was recovered from honey sold as "Sweet Clover Honey". There was some sweet clover pollen but it was not the dominant pollen in this sample. This view is an optical section at the pole of the pollen grain. The three "colpus" (furrows) are clearly evident and extend to the pole but do not touch. The "endexine is smooth under the "colpus". The columella are "rugulate", randomly oriented linear structures, at the poles by "stiate" , roughly parallel linear structures, over the rest of the body.
