Coast Live Oak Leaf Ash

This is ash from Coast Live Oak Leaf, Quercus agrifolia. This structure is from the vessel walls of the leaf. These structures often char or ash forming a tightly toothed comb fragment. This is from a tree in Southern California near a wildfire. This sample was ashed in a laboratory muffle furnace.
