Salt, Palm Canyon Salt Lick

A sample of salt from the Palm Canyon salt lick near Palm Springs, California, was examined as it formed from solution. The second set of salts to crystallize were sodium and potassium chlorides. At this point in the evaporation process sodium chloride crystallizes in the cubic habit and potassium chloride crystalizes in the octahedral habit.
