Kauai Sea Salt
These crystals were prepared from a saturated salt solution
allowing the water to slowly evaporate. The red clay
(Alaea) that gives the red Kauai salt its color can be seen at lower left center.
The presence of this clay has an effect on how
the salt crystallizes. The way the salt crystallizes affects the sensation in the
mouth.
