Keoneloa or ShipWreck Beach, Kauai, Hawaii

This patch of sand is red on the normally orange colored beach due to rust from the buried remains of a ship that wrecked on the beach. The old wooden ship was visible until the hurricane of 1982 buried it. Residual iron parts are rusting beneath the sand and coloring the surface of the sand grains.
