California GrasslandThis file contains images of the California grassland before and after fires.
The plants that burn or the parts of the plants that burn help
indicate what particles will be the signature of the fire.

California Grassland Fire ParticlesThis file contains the charred plant material from these fires. The burnt
clay and fire retardant is the same for this wild fire as it is for
all other wildfires. California steppe includes a variety of grasses,
                      Artemisia (sagebrush), Heteromeles (toyon), Cercocarpus
(mountain mahogany), Prunus (cherries), and members of the families
Rhamnaceae (buckthorn), Ericaceae (heather), Fagaceae (beech), and
Anacrdiaceae (sumac). Quercus (Shrub live oak) is common on north facing
slopes and moister areas. Platanus (arizona sycamore) is also
                      present.
